The
National Association of Attorney Generals (NAAG) and the National
Associations of State Charities Officials (NASCO) are working
together to standardized non-profit agencies registration procedures
to allow solicitation to occur within their states. To date, close
to 40 states are utilizing the Unified Registration Statement.
So
what does this mean to a donor or an investor interested in supporting
FORGE? A non-profit agency that register within the states they
solicit or plan to solicit send a signal of credibility to potential
donors and provides a place within a state for a donor to investigate
a non-profit. Attorney Generals are concerned, and rightly so,
about the fund raising within their states. This unified approach
in registering is a real help to a non-profit such a FORGE who
will need to register or reregister with most of the states over
a 1-5 month period at the beginning of each new calendar year.
